About 500 students at James Logan High School must be tested for tuberculosis after an individual associated with the school was identified as an active carrier of the bacterial disease, said New Haven Unified School District spokesman Rick La Plante on Wednesday.
That person, whose identity has not been released, is being treated and is no longer on campus
He stressed that it is very difficult to spread tuberculosis, as it would take prolonged contact with an active carrier in an enclosed environment.
A notification was sent Friday to all students and families, informing them that the school and the Alameda County Public Health Department have been working to identify staff members and students who may be at risk.
A second notification was sent Wednesday to 500 people who will need to be tested some time next week.
