Jay-Z Headed To Court Over His ‘Big Pimpin’ Track!

[photogallerylink id=213010] You know the song….“We doin’ big pimpin’, spending G’s. Check em’ out now, big pimpin’ on B-L-A-D’s” well c’mon you know the rest! LOL– My man[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Jay-Z [/lastfm]was just here in the Bay on Wednesday night! Hov and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kanye[/lastfm] killed it at their sold-out Watch The Throne Tour stop! Just as the tour is about to wrap up this weekend, Jigga isn’t going to be able to sit back and kick it with his baby mama Beyonce… he’s headed to trial!

See what had happened was….. Jay-Z is being sued for copyright infringement. The claim is that his track ‘Big Pimpin’ bites off an Egyptian song from back in 1957. A guy named Osama Ahmed Fahmy says he co-owns the rights to the song called ‘Khosara Kosara’ a song done by his Uncle Baligh Hamdy. He claims that Hov used the melody to his Uncle’s song in his huge smash hit ‘Big Pimpin.’

A lawsuit earlier ruled in Jigga’s favor earlier this year but now it looks like a U.S. District Judge Christina Synder says that the guy doing the lawsuit is entitiled to get compensation for up to 3 years before he actually filed the suit! Jay-Z’s label isn’t going for that…. so to the courtroom they go!

The Judge said, “There is no record evidence that Jay-Z used ‘Big Pimpin’ in his advertisements for a particular concert or series, or that ‘Big Pimpin’ was performed at every concert. It is a question of fact whether Jay-Z’s concert revenues should be considered direct or indirect. It’s up to a  jury to decide….”

Um…. not to be a snitch or anything…. but I went to see my man Hov on Wednesday night in San Jose, when I heard him do this song I lost it!! LOVE it!!

We are going to have to wait and see what a jury decides if it doesn’t get settled out of court before then. The lawyers have asked that Hov disclose what money he’s made from concerts and advertising those concerts. OOOOO we! That’s gotta be a lot!!

Do you think people should be able to sue artists who sampled or have songs that are familiar sounding to their “original” track?
