Harbaugh Doesn’t Change Walmart Wardrobe For NFC Championship

by Brandon Mercer

SEATTLE (CBS SF) — Despite a week of fault-finding with the 49ers head coach’s wardrobe, Jim Harbaugh paced the sidelines at Sunday’s NFC Championship Game wearing the same pleated khakis that had his wife Sarah and fashionistas blasting his pants for being out of date, and unflattering.

It appears his much-anticipated wardrobe change does not apply to game days when a trip to the Super Bowl hangs in the balance.

At Thursday’s news conference, Harbaugh had told sports reporters, “I heard they were making quite a bit of sport of me.”

Wearing a pair of $23 Dickey’s flat front khakis, the coach told reporters that the problem is solved. “So, happy wife, happy life,” he said.

That came two days after Sarah Harbaugh told 99.7 [NOW!]’s Fernando & Greg that he buys his $8 pants at Walmart, and keeps buying them even though she throws them out.

“And he pulls them up to the middle of his stomach, and it’s not a good look, you’re aging yourself,” she related, adding that he’s got a good physique, but the pants are not flattering.

Sarah Harbaugh said, “I know he won’t make a change this far in the season…” to his pants, or even his car, but she steered clear of using the word “superstition,” just referring to, “things that could change other things.”

If and when he does change the pleats on game day, Harbaugh said he will continue to have his shirt tucked in on the sideline.

“If I’m the last person who tucks in their shirt, that would feel great, I’ll feel like an innovator,” he said.
