Captain America: The Winter Soldier is still king of the box office. The flick (which premiered last week) just barely edged out Rio 2, the animated flick starring The Social Network‘s Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway. Captain America raked in about half of what it did for its opening weekend, but that was enough to put it just ahead of the newly premiered Rio. Blame it on the weather—Rio played well on Friday, but fell on Saturday and Sunday, and critics believe audiences spent their weekend outdoors instead of at the theaters.
Other new premieres did alright. Oculus, the horror flick about siblings and the mirror that haunts their family, modestly emerged at $12 million—not bad for a film festival pick. Draft Day, starring Kevin Costner, earned a high CinemaScore, and will likely continue to do well.
Mr. Peabody and Sherman and The Muppets continue to hold on, although they will likely be edged out by next week.
