Billboard Hot 100 Sets Record for Gridlock as ‘Happy’ Retains Top Spot
Ever had that friend who complains literally all the time that the popular music charts are always the same with little change? For the last three weeks, he/she’s been kind of right.
Billboard revealed today this week’s Hot 100 ranking, and it was more of the same, with Pharrell topping the chart for the eighth week with the virtually inescapable “If You’re Happy and You Know It” update “Happy”.
But it was what followed the No. 1 hit that was the real story, or lack thereof. The entire top seven of the Hot 100 was in the exact same chart placements they were last week, just like they were the week before. That makes three straight weeks of the same top seven: “Happy”, John Legend‘s “All of Me”, “Dark Horse” from Katy Perry and Juicy J, Jason Derulo‘s 2 Chainz-featuring hit “Talk Dirty”, “Frozen” hit “Let It Go”, “Pompeii” from Bastille and Lorde‘s sophomore hit, “Team”.
