It looks like Transformers isn’t slowing down anytime soon. The fourth installment of the franchise opened this weekend to the highest grossing premiere of the year so far, ahead of even Captain America, which brought in $95 million. It may even take in over $1 billion woldwide.

Within the franchise alone, this is the second highest-grossing film (if you can believe it) behind 2009’s Revenge of the Fallen, and though it received an A- CinemaScore, the folks over at Rotten Tomatoes were thorughly unimpressed—currently it has a 17% score.

Meanwhile, 22 Jump Street, which premiered last week, fell 44%, but will still likely make a pretty good showing during its box office run. On the other hand, How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Think Like a Man Too will both take in far less than expected, both of which fell almost 50% or more.

One thing of note here—half of the films in the top ten (and four of the top five) are sequels. Surely someone in Hollywood has some fresh ideas?
