Last week, Jen Hurd Bohn and her husband Jeff finally made it to the top of the Eiffel Tower, on the last day in their trip to Paris.
The sun was setting, and the elevator was about to leave, but Bohn needed to make a quick stop at the bathroom before heading down to street level. On her way back to meet her husband at the elevator, she paused. A man knelt on one knee to propose to a woman.
Bohn was in a rush to catch the last elevator down, so initially she kept walking, but then hesitated.
“I turned around and ran back,” she told CBS San Francisco. She didn’t want to be “a creeper,” as she said with a laugh, but she also realized she was in a unique position to capture an important moment in the lives of this couple.
“I thought, you know what? There is no one around, it’s the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, it’s sunset, it’s beautiful. I would want pictures,” she said. “I kinda just thought I’d try and look for these people.”
Bohn snapped five photos of the couple (see two below), including the moment the bride-to-be sees the ring, and her sweet reaction, where as Bohn says, “she gives him a big kiss.”
Bohn notes that these were taken around sunset, 9:45 p.m. in Paris on Sunday, June 21 (the sun sets later there). Bohn adds that since her post a few days ago, several outlets in Europe have been looking for the couple, including The Daily Mail.
“It’s like the golden rule; do unto others,” she says.”I hear a lot of negative things, but there are also so many good people out there wanting to help. I’m loving the goodness of these people, and that has been the most rewarding thing I’ve seen.”
