Welp, that’s one way to deal with boredom.
Stephen Colbert, clearly biding his time before his new “Late Show” begins airing on CBS this September 8, took to an unlikely platform to get back into the hosting groove: a Monroe, Michigan Public Access channel.
Colbert led the entirety of the show — a full 41 minutes and 19 seconds — by voicing event announcements and covering local gossip and news for the area (including a recounting of one particularly scandalous tiff between a grumpy local restaurant owner and a Yelp user).
Colbert had local guests on the show as well, as discovered by a Redditor (but eventually tweeted by Eminem). First up were Michelle Bowman and Kaye Lani Rae Rafko Wilson, the show’s usual hosts, but the guest of the hour was an up and coming musical artist from nearby Detroit: Marshall Mathers.
It’s also possible that the voice behind the interim montages might be…Zach Woods of “Silicon Valley”?
Watch Colbert return to his old hosting prowess. He’s a pro — not many hosts could get Em to sing along with him to Bob Seger.
