Jay Z’s ‘Songs For Survival’ Playlist Includes Beyonce, Kanye West

Jay Z continues to react to the deadly shootings last week of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, who were both shot and killed by police. After dropping his song “Spiritual” in response to the shootings on Friday (July 8), he has now revealed a new playlist via Tidal called Songs For Survival.

Jay Z’s list features art work of Malcolm X shaking hands with Martin Luther King and includes a song by Beyonce, “FREEDOM” and one by Kanye West,”Ultralight Beam.” 24-track playlist opens with Goodie Mob’s “Free” and also showcases Fela Kuti, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley and The Wailers and Marvin Gaye, among others. In a statement released last week on the police shootings, Jay Z wrote, “I’m saddened and disappointed in THIS America—we should be further along. WE ARE NOT.”
